Summary
Carol’s standing at the sink, clothes in a pile scooted toward the wall, wearing only simple grey bra and matching women’s underwear. Impostor has made her mascara run beneath her eyes, has left her red lipstick in smears over her lower cheeks and chin. Her breathing is rough, like she’d been running from something and escaped by the skin of her teeth. It always fractures her heart, to see Carol like this, an exposed nerve wondering at its place in the body, waiting for someone to tell it precisely where it belongs.
With me, thinks Helen, reaching out, tentatively touching Carol on her right upper arm. With someone you don’t ever need to hide from.

“Hey, you.” Talanah’s smiling voice filters through, feathery at the edges and rasped in the vowels. Stutter-pulsed, all reflex, Aloy turns toward the sound and feels silly for it when she finds only shadows. “Glad you made it back.”
“Uh—hey. Yeah. Hi,” Aloy stumbles in response, flustered. Suddenly everything she planned to say slips from her grasp and scatters before she can chase it. Slinging her forearm across her eyes like bracing against a gale of wind, she gathers a breath and tries to pull it together. “Sorry. Did I, ah, wake you?”
When preparations for Nemesis have Aloy frustrated, Talanah is there (in a sense) to help her blow off steam.

Summary
When a petty joke from the suggestion box gets twisted up into an entirely new adventure by Caine, the entire cast has their genders swapped for the day: the boys are girls, the girls are boys, and Zooble is—well, Zooble with a hue shift.
For most, it’s awkward, and maybe a little bit funny in places. All they have to do is coach each other through a series of whatever Caine’s ideas on stereotypical, 'gendered activities' are, and they’ll go back to normal.
For Jax, however…
It’s perhaps a bit of an eye-opener.
(Or: In a move that surprises everyone but makes complete sense in hindsight, it turns out that Jax actually is an egg that needs to be cracked open.)
