Summary
Darkness persists through all facets of life. Through the shadow under your feet, to the twilight hours of night. Into people's subconscious, their thoughts and feelings growing more bitter with age and experience.
Kris knew this well. The dark, for them, was a comfort. Sometimes they'd put off sleeping for hours just so they could lay there in the dark, a vague hope that perhaps ______ would come back to them.
It never worked, of course, and they knew that they'd suffer for it, but they were already suffering regardless so what was a couple of hours of lost sleep to them? They'd wake up in the light of morning regardless.

Darkrune is a Fell-adjacent AU to the hit indie game Deltarune, created by Toby Fox, and is centred around an alternate universe where one shifted event manages to drastically shift the trajectory of, overall, very similar events. Starring Kris as normal, their life is much different than in canon, and much worse off as their grief takes a much harder hold of them than before. All of this only grows worse as a parasite latches into their body, and then the darkness begins to take ahold of them...

This pony, a purple unicorn, is known as Twilight Sparkle, and she resides in the local library. Despite her initial hesitance, she has gained innumerable and invaluable friends as her studies lead to growth that nobody could've imagined.

There's a new girl in school—Tall and stalwart and oh so strong—And she has a bone to pick with Kris. She makes a habit out of cornering them after school to threaten them with beatings, slamming them against lockers, taking bites out of their food, and other things that typical bullies do.
…And Kris really, really likes it.
The new girl really, really hates Kris. Kris, however, does not return the sentiment.

“Rabbit, I’m worried about you, you know?” Terrapin said. “Really, I am. Just the other day you dove head first into another one of Fox and Wolf’s traps, just because you can!” Well, yes, and it was really funny watching those two completely mess up despite him ‘falling right for it’. Because their plans were stupid, predictable, and even if he played along with it, those two would somehow manage to mess up.
He could handle himself, he told Terrapin. Truly, there was no danger at all. He’ll run for his life, sure, but he’ll never get caught. The title of ‘Cabbage King’ wasn’t enough anymore. Call him God, because consequences were beyond him.
“That doesn’t matter, Rabbit,” Terrapin argued instead, “It’s the fact that it really doesn’t seem like you value your own life. You're being self-destructive.”
Terrapin reached out, and when Rabbit tried to pull away, his scaled hands found his sleeve, tugging, asking him to turn back around. In an act of self-determination Rabbit only so often sees from the turtle, he said,
“Whatever Fox said, don’t listen.”
AKA: Rabbit, Fox, and a complex arrangement.
