Summary
"Think of thy Father’s body as the nails went through," says Minos. "The agony of mutilation. The ecstasy of rebirth. How art thou to serve Him if thou hast experienced neither? If thou hast denied thyself all sensation?"
"I know of agony," says Gabriel.
"Is agony enough?" Minos asks, strokes a tender line against Gabriel’s helm. "Is pain alone enough for thee? When thou couldst know so much more?"

Summary
“Tell me, Machine,”
Gabriel took a knee in front of the wreckage that remained of its body, plunging Justice and Splendor into the frozen ground to either side. He couldn’t quite look the machine in the eye as he mulled over what he wanted to say. Gabriel had been holding onto the question from the very moment the Father’s Light was rent from his body. The desire to ask struck him almost as violently as his initial horror when searing pain seemed like it would never subsist. He wanted to know he wasn’t alone in his newly recognized mortality. Perhaps its what stopped Justice from penetrating deep into the machines core now that it lay at his mercy.
“Are you afraid to die?”
