    Bookmarker's Notes

This piece has a wonderful subtlety to it; there are so many lines that gently hint at what Ashe and Petra's relationship used to be like in the Academy, which forces the reader to imagine all the suppressed, conflicting emotions they're both feeling after the timeskip. Three Houses itself sometimes brushes over the tragedy of former classmates/friends ending up on opposite sides of a war, so it's great to see the struggle between interpersonal relationships and international politics explored more solemnly here.

    Favorite Line:

Ashe heard the echoes of footsteps all the way out of the castle, and down every alley, until he was behind a locked door at a sordid inn in the worst part of Enbarr.

[Pre-BotW] Link and Zelda arrive at Gerudo Town with a request for Urbosa. Link's arrival, however, is more than he bargained for. ["You there. Champion. Do you possess any talents at all, or does that darkness-sealing relic choose its owner based on how pretty they look?"] [oneshot, Link/Urbosa]

    Bookmarker's Notes

A wonderful showcase of the contrast between Link's quiet humility and Urbosa's blazing pride, culminating in an intense, weighty fight scene. In addition to the characterization, I love how the author describes the beauty of the Gerudo Desert, even introducing new lore to flesh out Breath of the Wild's version of Greater Hyrule.

    Favorite Line:

"In ages past, the Gerudo were a scattering of tribes. We waged terrible wars against each other, and the desert drank oceans of our blood. Eventually, we realized that we were only bringing about our own destruction. But our feuds ran deep, and pride would not allow us to bow. So each tribe sent forth their chief – their greatest warrior – to the coliseum of Korsh O'Hu, and for seven days and seven nights, the chiefs battled to determine the supreme ruler of our race. But at the dawn of the eighth day, when the sun lit upon the blood-splattered sands, each chief saw that the others still stood, and they understood the strength of their sisters, and they threw down their weapons and acknowledged the futility of war. The Seven emerged as one from the coliseum, and the Gerudo were born."

    Bookmarker's Notes

Very creative study of a minor character that I never would have thought twice about, which in a way is one of the main themes of the original film - that anyone can be the protagonist of their own story, no matter how unlikely it seems from the outside. I love how the glimpses of sentient arcade games creep in slowly enough that they don't feel out of place next to more grounded anecdotes about starting a business and chasing the American Dream. The scene in the arcade during Turbo's takeover is terrifying to think about, and the denouement is a wonderfully sentimental, cinematic ending.

    Favorite Line:

"And make sure you never get rid of Tapper's!" Someone yelled, and a chorus of laughs came around.

"Yeah, if he gets unplugged we'll riot!"

    "Go on strike!"
