Summary
Nick and Charlie had a plan: Nick would complete teacher training while Charlie finished university. Then they'd start their careers together and live happily ever after.
But then Nick is offered a position on a professional rugby team. It means being apart from Charlie again, but it also means an incredible dream coming true. Charlie is certain they can make it work, so Nick joins the team.
What Nick doesn't expect is how difficult it is going from being captain of a university team to the youngest player on a professional team. How embarrassing it is for his mum and Charlie to travel to his first match, only for him to sit on the sidelines as a replacement. How unsure he is if he made the right choice. How hard it is to be away from Charlie when he's falling apart.
After Nick is injured during a match, he develops some unhealthy coping mechanisms to deal with his physical and emotional pain. At first he thinks he can keep it under control, but it isn't long before he starts to spiral.
When Charlie realizes what's going on, will he be able to break Nick out of the spiral? Will their relationship survive the struggle? Will Nick be able to undo the damage he's done while trying to numb his pain?

Ordinarily, I would. Whenever I stay overnight at Nick’s, I’m usually the one to see him off to his teaching job. I stand in the doorway with his hoodie and my boxers on, Daisy at my feet and a mug of coffee in my hands, and send him off to his car with a kiss or three, promising to see him when he gets back. Youssef usually meets us at Tara’s Café between nine and nine-thirty for coffee and appointment assigning, and to make sure I do eat, but there are times, like today, where one of us has an early appointment and he has no choice but to tell us to meet early. I hope it’s my turn to have the early appointment. This job is a lot easier if I can get my turn out of the way instead of waiting around like some kind of death omen.
I frown. “I wish but I have to meet someone at eight. I should actually get ready, I don’t want to be late.”

Charlie Spring unexpectedly finds himself living back in his family home in his late 20s wondering where his life is going to go next when a dodgy music cable and an errant fox conspire to send him on a collision course with the new head of French at Truham.
Nick Nelson, is single yet again approaching 30 when he finds an opportunity to return to the town of his early childhood. He's desperate to finally find that connection he's been seeking and thinks maybe he might just have located it in a pair of twinkling blue eyes. But will be demoted to the friend zone once more?
This is a slow burn due to missed opportunities and misunderstandings and there's a lesson for Nick that sometimes it's worth more closely following Darcy's advice.
"He squeezed the wheel and looked in his rear view mirror. What he saw there made his heart skip a beat. A tall, somewhat ruddy faced man with shining auburn hair, large arms and a broad chest was climbing out of the small vehicle. He ran his fingers through his hair, as if this was some sort of bloody shampoo commercial, and then gripped lightly at the back of his neck before starting walking towards Charlie’s car."

Nick and Charlie met at St. Sebastian's University as theology students, both investigating their vocation. Nick is set on the priesthood and following the traditional version of Catholicism he grew up with. Charlie is more interested in being the social justice-focused follower of Jesus outlined in the Bible. They do not like each other, and when they are reintroduced at the university and forced to teach a theology seminar on love, vocations, and health, they clash, in more ways than one.

"Charlie has mostly gotten over the guilt of Nick leaving Leeds because of him. Nick doesn’t seem to mind, though. According to him, he’d live on the moon as long as he was with Charlie. It’s that kind of love and devotion that makes Charlie want to give Nick anything. If Nick wanted to be with a girl- to kiss or to fuck- Charlie would make it happen. That’s the ridiculous part. Because the only way it could ever happen is if Charlie is there and fully aware and calling the shots. They’ve done some kinky stuff, but this idea takes the cake."
Charlie gets it in his head that Nick might like to have sex with a girl. And the more he thinks about it, the hotter he finds the thought of watching that happen.
I am fully aware this is not for everyone. Don't come at me! The actual main event doesn't happen until later chapters, so feel free to read the rest for the plain old Nick and Charlie hot sex you know and love :)
