Summary
Dr. Ryland Grace is the only living human in the Tau Ceti system. His crewmates are dead, his friends and family impossibly distant. His only companions are the ship's AI and robot. His own possessions feel unfamiliar. So does his own body.
Until the Hail Mary reaches a stable orbit around Tau Ceti, there's little that Grace can do to start the mission. In the meantime, he tries to get his bearings amidst the amnesia, the isolation, and even the extra gravity. He starts eating solid food again, thus regaining his strength. And he starts remembering the people he knew on Earth- thus regaining his courage.
This is now an introductory novelette in a planned series of works, detailing the adventures of Ryland Grace as I headcanon him to be: aspec, late-diagnosed autistic, overweight (back on Earth anyway,) and an "ex-vangelical" atheist. All aspects of himself that he's worked hard to accept, and even be proud of.
Who, me? Projecting onto a fictional not-an-astronaut? It's more likely than you think...

Summary
Chummy resigns from Astor Lodge in the spring of 1961, while pregnant with her second child. The baby is another boy, whom the Noakes name David. Davey's birth is even more complicated than Freddie's, and leaves Chummy unable to bear more children.
Now a family of four, the Noakes move into a semidetached home in Drakefield Estate- the same neighborhood the Turners will move into the following year. Apart from "pitching in" with the Nonnatuns who stay behind from the South Africa trip, Chummy does not return to Nonnatus House. She remains friends with her former colleagues- especially Trixie- and finds new adventures in motherhood, adoption, and in advocating for "thalidomide babies" and their families.
This timeline is canon compliant on most major events, apart from some tweaks to the Turners' home life from having the Noakes for neighbors. (FRIENDSHIP FLUFF!)

He's such a messy, disgusting, soft thing. Of course he needs to be taken care of.
Grace is not dying anymore. But it isn't enough. He's not sure when, or if, it will be. He has to keep trying.
He gets so worked up he cannot sleep.
So, he goes to Grace. To his Grace. His new suit allowing them to touch, dextrous gloves he can run through Grace's soft hair. So soft. All of him like that, and, recently as he's learned, he can get softer.
