Why did she feel sympathy with this brute and her cruel god? Then it hit her; in Lae’zel she saw a reflection of her own faith, someone so devoted to a god they believe the pain it inflicts is holy, and from the outside it was grotesque. The thought caused a spike of pain to shoot through her hand, a sign of her lady's disapproval, the pain subsided with a whispered prayer begging for forgiveness. How could she compare her lady's divine and holy pain to some lesser deity's torture? Who cares if Lae’zel believes her pain is holy? It wasn’t her concern. So then why did her stomach drop when she saw the gith wince? Why Despite all Shar’s teachings did she want to give Lae’zel The relief she herself couldn't have?
