The strange thing is that Barton ought to be an unremarkable man. He has no superpowers, no enhancements, no complicated vengeful backstory, or at least not one that was mentioned in his file. What he seems to have - helping his neighbour upstairs with her groceries, or stopping a mugger, or fighting against Doombots with the Avengers and putting himself at unacceptable risk - is an unshakeable loyalty and a dented moral compass that nonetheless always points him right.
It's intriguing. Confusing. Fascinating in ways that the Soldier has no idea how to explain.
So instead he reports back on the harmless details; the dog, the range, the dull gold ring on the fourth finger of Barton's left hand.

What it did NOT include was: Having the local wildlife unanimously decide that his garden was the greatest sanctuary ever, attracting the attention of the mysterious species of humans known as 'The Avengers', or starting a war with a cunning raccoon that destroyed everything in Steve's garden, then learning that the raccoon was not really a raccoon after all and Steve should have really known better.

Summary
Bucky always loved reading, it was one of the reasons he opened up his own bookstore after all. Seeing the joy on peoples faces as they discovered new worlds, new authors and a way to ease their troubles never failed to bring Bucky a sense of contentment.
Which is why when just before Christmas, Bucky sees a man at the diner who appears to be lonely and in need of comfort, he walks up and hands him a book. An escape.
What Bucky didn’t expect was to form such a strong connection with a stranger over something as simple as reading, a stranger who started to look vaguely familiar somehow.
Having a massive crush wasn't an issue, finding out exactly who he was falling for happened to be slightly more problematic...

Being roped into speed dating was not how Bucky imagined spending his Friday night, especially when he realises some of these people might just be a little bit over his pay grade.
But then Steve sits down, gorgeous, friendly and full of genuine warmth. Within mere minutes he manages to completely charm the pants off Bucky (or so his future self hopes).
So why then, after such a strong connection, didn't Steve call him?
Cue some self indulgent pining, a meddling housemate and his redhead accomplice, unintentional saké misuse and a surprise revelation of super proportions.

And when he sees a fellow sufferer in need of saving from all the lights, cameras, and hubbub, of course he's going to sidle over and be a friendly face.
Except the poor, unfashionable gentleman perhaps isn't a ring in like Bucky imagined, is perhaps more famous than he looks?
Is perhaps actually a real life superhero?
This is just fluff and more fluff of disaster Bucky and an always charmed Captain America...
