There is a serial rapist running around Tokyo, targetting teenage boys. It's just so Shinichi's luck to be stuck with the pervert. Thanks to his kicks, he can fend the criminal off, but he still got injected with the drug and the pervert is slowly waking up. So Shinichi calls for help. He calls Ginzo Nakamori, because he doesn't want his police task force to mother him. It so happens that one Kaito Kuroba is sitting in the car with Nakamori when the inspector gets the phone call from a drugged Shinichi.

KID stares at him, uncomprehending. “Again?”
“Clearly I’m not talking about the shrinking here,” Shinichi says, pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration. “Look, this is gonna sound crazy, but,” he lets out a breath, “I can...read minds.”
KID blinks at him, mouth open as if to speak but nothing coming out. He looks Shinichi up and down, eyes trailing over the length of his body. “Are you sure you’re not sick?”
Shinichi can suddenly read minds. It's more of a drag than one would expect it to be.
