Summary
Another screen on the console flickered to life, then another, and another, all of them blurred with rapidly scrolling metrics she didn’t understand. The room was awash in neon for their sudden awakening.
None of this was inherently dangerous, but it was alarming, to say the least. “Uh,” she managed to say. “Is this a good thing?”
Suddenly, the text tapered off the screens, as though the console had come to the end of whatever bootup sequence it had just run.

The lump in Kotomi’s throat was steadily growing and she let go of the feather, withdrawing her hand from her bag and curling her wings around her shoulders. “Um, Keigo. That's his name. Probably not Takami anymore, but — He’s Keigo.” She blurted, unable to keep it to herself any longer.
Unconsciously, her hand drifted up to her face, one of her fingers brushing over the markings at the corners of her eyes. “Wait — You mean you know him,” Hitoshi said bemusedly. Kotomi hated that she could tell where he'd decided to turn the question into a statement.
“Knew.” She corrected quietly. Finally, she tore her gaze away from the TV. “He was my big brother a long time ago. Mom always said he was going to be a hero — I guess she was right.”
(Or, Takami Kotomi clawed her way into the Hero Course despite her rough upbringing, only to discover that not only was her favorite hero her homeroom teacher, one of her classmates was none other than her ex-foster brother.)

A misstep, a stupid, silly thought. Time slowed as he caught her wrist in a strong hand, his right one she absentmindedly noted, and she felt the subtle, cool chill of frost prickling on her skin.
