    He closes his eyes, pretending that he can escape his latest and last mistake, his last sight being the mixed colours of the whirling robes of cultivators from every inch of the cultivation world, come to slay the fearsome Yiling Patriarch and his evil army of Wen dogs. The colourful blurs splashed in red led by a familiar purple figure, purple whip sparking with uncontained rage.

    He closes his eyes, broken and beaten and bloody, ready to be freed from this nightmare.

    He closes his eyes, expecting to never see the light of day or bloodied corpses again.

    He opens his eyes.

     

    Pretty much just Wei Wuxian in the bnha world, necromancy and all. Throw in some wangxian bc I couldn't let him suffer alone and there you go.

    Lan Wangji doesn’t often receive missives addressed specifically to him. In times of need, people tend to write to the leader of a clan, or perhaps to some renowned elder—at most. In a few letters, the boldest might ask for him directly, after all, he is Hanguang-Jun. The only letters he’s ever received personally were thank-you notes. So it doesn’t particularly surprise him when someone leaves him a letter bearing his name. No specific colors, no seal—clearly not from any prominent clan. See? Just grateful civilians.

    But the surprise hits him like a crashing tide when he reads the very first line. It’s his name—yes, his name! But his name name: Lan Zhan. A name used by only one person. A person who has been rejecting him lately—again and again. A person who is now exiled in the Burial Mounds. This has to be a mistake, surely it is, but when he reaches the bottom of the page and sees the name Wei Ying, he has to rub his eyes and— and—
    it’s not a mistake.
