(Actively being worked on, but no consistent upload schedule (still working on as of Oct 2025 but I lowk don't have enough juice to crank it out rn)As River and the Doctor lay nestled, surrounded by the hum of the engines, River smiled back on her life with the Doctor, the adventures and the tragedies, the love and the fear. She knew more of their story would be ahead, more danger, and eventually – their end – but she was content in his arms for now. Secure and treasured in the warm embrace of her precious husband.

“I don’t know what to tell you,” River took a sip from her own mug, setting it down and pushing her glasses up, adjusting her curls as she said, “They’re just something about him.” She bit her lip slightly as she paused.

“You’re really committing to this whole domestic fantasy, aren’t you?” The Doctor had said. His tone was dry, but his lips held a slight curve as he watched her dig her fingers into the dirt. He snorted when she’d pulled out a trowel.
“You’re hilarious.” River had replied, flinging a small scoop of red earth in his direction and laughing as he lept backward, brushing frantically at his wrinkled trousers.

River worried that he was treating this like some sort of penance. A punishment for a crime he couldn’t remember committing, one that had nothing to do with her, or their marriage, or her inevitable, fast-approaching demise.
... and tried helplessly to focus on whatever she was reading while he purposefully nudged at her feet and tangled their legs together.
... a raucous, enormous laugh that left his face buried in his hands and his eyes crinkled and bright.
