Summary
Call it any number of things, fate, luck, sheer fucking coincidence, but he’s in the right place at the right time to catch someone hollering about Gold Roger’s son being put up for sale.
Even if it’s all a pack of lies, no kid deserves the fate that’s coming from being a look-alike with Roger. Shanks finds his feet moving of their own accord, the whole world narrowing to just this thin, insipid man, beaming from ear to ear as he talks about an auction for a child.
“What,” Shanks drawls in his best ‘Saint Fearsome Figarland’ voice, “Is this nonsense?”

Shamrock has a brother.
A twin, his father said, stolen by lawless pirates when you were mere infants. A whole entire brother, a person who was supposed to be with Shamrock, a best friend fashioned of his own flesh and blood, far superior to any of the other children who mock him at times for being the product of his father’s fling with a less being. But now Shamrock will show them - he’s seven years old, he has a blade just as sharp as his father’s, he can go on a great quest to find his twin and bring Shanks home. That’s what his books talk about, grand knights and bold nobles locating mighty weapons and treasures thought long lost.
The storybook knights always come home victorious, always. And now, he will too.

He doesn't register anything more than God's Knight, reaching before he draws his sword and hits the Knight with all the Haki he can muster. She recoils, screaming in pain, and drops whatever she was holding in one hand. Roger catches it.
Oh shit. That's a baby.
He turns to see the frightened shape that he originally caught his attention, and finds himself looking at a young Marine cadet, bleeding heavily from one shoulder and curled around a second baby, obviously twin to the one now held haphazardly in Roger's arms.

Summary
Perhaps observing him sitting on the deck, clutching at his skull, is enough to reassure the little boy that Brook is no threat. He cautiously clambers aboard, sword clutched in one hand, and leans forward to give Brook’s nearest foot a poke with the tip of his blade. The sheer absurdity of it should be enough to make anyone laugh, but the skeleton manages to restrain himself. “You- are you dead?”
“In a sense, yes! But also technically, no! Yohohoho!” Well, at least he restrained himself momentarily. With no hat to doff, Brook settles for sweeping his arms about and bowing from his seated position. “Humming Brook, last remaining member of the Rumbar Pirates, at your service!”
The boy’s eyes grow very wide. He stares at Brook for a long moment, before glancing about the rather tattered ship, and seems to come to something of a decision. “If you’re a pirate, I should arrest you.” Ah. That does not sound promising. “But... If I rescue you instead, that means you owe me a debt?”
Judging by his immediate grimace, the child didn’t mean for that to come out as a question.
