    Summary

Joseph and Caesar have always been close, too close that they’ve suspected more.
They’ve always known it’s been more, but can never admit it.

In a soft night, they finally express themselves, ending the night with a smile and a flush.

“... If your trust in me runs deep enough, if you could trust me with your mind...”
Avdol had been avoiding eye contact before, the sudden intensity of his gaze and sincere tone making him feel fluttery.
“I could take it from you. Cradle your consciousness safely in my arms.”
There was a tremor in his voice, barely noticeable.
    “Only temporarily, but I could.”

    He blinked at him owlishly.
    “What do you mean?”
Take his mind. Hold it. The idea of that should be unsettling, but something about the way it was said… It felt…

    “Hypnosis, Polnareff.”

    --

Exhausted, miserable, and thoroughly battered after defeating Cameo, Polnareff spends his time in the submarine moping and picking at his wounds.
Avdol takes pity on him and makes an interesting offer.

When Joseph thought of Heaven, he always pictured it as some stereotypical fluffy cloud paradise that belonged in a children’s picture book, populated with angels that upheld righteousness and everything good. His assumption was only half-right.

    Summary

After the Judgement Arc, Avdol and Polnareff find themselves stuck on words that were left unsaid. Cooped up in a hotel room with their journey nearing its end, their conversation transforms into something desperate...

“Don’t be afraid to say it,“—Avdol grips the others shoulders like a vice—“Don’t be afraid to say it.”
The words come tumbling out of him, resonant and laced with a temperate fear of its own accord. Avdol tilted forward on the hotel bed, leaning until the fire in his amber gaze felt as heated as the flames charring within him, even when meeting his dear friends own metallic stare.
“What? I’m, er, not… Afraid, Avdol,” the Frenchman found himself choking out, not much surer of himself as his Egyptian friend was.
