Their lips broke apart and Qifrey heard himself whining, a high noise he would probably be embarrassed about if it weren’t for how wonderful Olruggio felt beneath him. If he had the presence of mind to even be embarrassed.
“Look at you,” Olly whispered, one hand hot on his hip, guiding him to grind down and press them together. “Always wanted you.”

Summary
There was a trail of Qifrey’s blood from the entrance to the door the doctor had disappeared through.
Luckily, he didn’t have long to stand there, numb. The girls appeared moments later.
Olly swallowed, hating that he needed to ask questions from them right now, but also desperately needing to know how yet another test had gone so sideways. He cleared his throat, getting the attention of all four apprentices, and eloquently managed to ask, “…what happened?”

Qifrey and Olruggio figure out what life looks like after the silverwood seed is gone. Fair warning, it starts with a good amount of angst but moves into lots of comfort. Full of yearning all the way through.
You definitely don't have to read the earlier bits in the series - it's all just a series of Olruggio and Qifrey yearning.

Sickness to Beldaruit was like an old friend. He’s lived with its presence beside him all his life. Used to recovering from it in a careful solitude, until he’s offered warmth and soup.
“I didn’t wish to needlessly worry you.” Beldaruit sighs, “My health should not be such a concern for you. After all, you have your own student to worry about now.”
“Not a concern for me? What, are you going to tell a child not to worry about their father?” It takes a beat for Qifrey to realize what he said, his cheeks flushing red as he looks away.
