Kaveh stands in the doorway, his heart in his throat and his hand ghosting over the pocket where he half-expects to find keys. There’s nothing there, of course, but it doesn’t stop him from searching a second time, fingers closing into a fist around thin air.
He had promised Alhaitham he would be back. That they would have dinner, and they would talk, and maybe Kaveh would move back into his old almost-friend’s house and be able to call it a home.
That was a week ago.
Kaveh isn't quite sure if he's ready to come back and face Alhaitham. Alhaitham isn't quite sure how to get Kaveh to stay. (The sequel to 'when you're not around')
