“Will you allow me the pleasure of cherishing you?” he asked.
His tone was gentle and he was looking at him with those tragically earnest eyes. It was enough to make him shudder, even without the soft peck Shunsui left on his knee. He took a deep breath to will away the redness in his cheeks and mustered up a nod, not quite trusting his voice at the moment.

Summary
Sometime around late morning, Shunsui was roused by a hand slipping beneath his uniform to brush against the nape of his neck.
“Your hairpin was slipping.”
The fingertips prodding against his spine, slender and calloused and firm, their cold a blessed reprieve from the cloying sweat-damp hair they displaced, were nowhere near his hairpins.

Summary
Even the most cheerful, resilient people sometimes falter. He didn’t sign up for this, after all, and he’s so tired.
Or, a tender, bittersweet moment as Shunsui holds Jushiro and offers him a chance to be less optimistic than he shows the world, a chance to fall apart just a little, without judgment. He thinks back on other times they’ve had this same conversation over the years, and all the things he should’ve said differently. He still doesn’t find a way to help as much as he’d like.

Ukitake hated these three-hour long captain meetings. But with Shunsui sitting next to him, it shouldn’t be that bad – but only if Shunsui doesn’t notice that he’s starting to show signs of a dangerous fever.

Summary
Ukitake was a man full of confidence, always eager to socialize or offer a shoulder to cry on. Many swooned over his kind spirit. What they didn't know about, and he had no intention of displaying, were some deep insecurities that weren't present frequently yet sometimes struck with a doubled force. At least, when at the bottom, he had someone to help him out.
