Avid didn’t want to believe it, of course he didn’t, but he had to consider it as a possibility.
After asking Pearl about his injury, in a very subtle way of course, he couldn’t deny that her description of a werewolf scratch matched his own wound to a disturbing degree. From what he remembered he never actually saw the monster that had done this to him, Elle had only caught a glimpse of it through the shadows.
It being a werewolf would explain his situation a bit better but it didn’t make it any less worrisome. He didn’t want to be a vampire but that didn’t mean he wanted to be a werewolf either, for god’s sake.
Or, Avid realizes he's infected with a werewolf curse but it's too late to use vampirism as a cure.
