Summary
John was out on a hunt when the call came: Kate Milligan was dead, and John was named in her will as the guardian of her son—his son—Adam. Pissed but knowing his duty, Dean pulled Sam out school during exam week, and they went to Windom in the thick of the Minnesota winter. 7-yr-old Adam was a lot like Sammy at that age, but Dean wasn't ready to accept him as another Winchester. Then the boy's life was threatened and all bets were off.
Written for Round 2 of spn_illuminated's 2012 reverse mini-bang, based on art prompt "Child's Play" by tattooeddevil. How could I resist a kid with a belly like this?

One of the best time travel Harry Potter stories that I have read in all my years. I am surprised I haven't encountered it before now, it covers all the usual theories and loopholes so well, it's astounding.

Though Petunia was undeniably cruel in canon. I have always found it distasteful how people have been forgiving Snape as an adult for his traumatic childhood, but are not even willing to sympathise with Petunia who also grows up with emotional trauma of her own as a neglected child. I love this fic because this shows exactly that as well as a different direction that Trauma can take, it doesn't always have to turn you cruel, a caricature of evil but can lead you to a distant life that is selfish but kind at the same time. Love this fic.
