Summary
With the Paintress gone, the world saved, and everyone back from the dead, they should have their perfect happy ending. But death has a habit of leaving scars even where it is reversed, new beginnings do not come easy, and no one is entitled to forgiveness.
When he returns from the continent newly alive and with the memory of his last moments ringing in his mind, all Lucien can think of is how he failed to protect Gustave in the end, and how he does not want to fail again. But looking after Gustave has always been a challenge, and it is made no easier by the fact that Maelle has all these memories of another life now, and a new brother, and trouble figuring out her priorities and how they affect those around her.

Summary
Alicia could not save Gustave from her father's ambush, but she managed to keep him from dying. Having learned the truth about their world and the Paintress, he wants nothing more than to catch up to the rest of his expedition and warn them before they can inadvertently wipe out their own people, and the fact that he has just suffered a couple of technically-fatal injuies is not going to stop him.

Back in the Stone Wave Cliffs, he had come to peace that this was where his journey ended—For those who come after, right?—but it seemed like his story wasn't done just yet. Maelle had, somehow, given him another lease on life, and this time, he could live it. He could grow old. He could do things simply for the sake of doing them; every waking moment didn't have to be dedicated to trying to solve the issue with the Paintress, with preserving their civilization.

Summary
Forget love. Forget painting. The residents of Lumiere just want to live. To survive. It's all they've ever wanted. And finally, with Aline and Renoir Dessendre barred from the Canvas, they might be able to. Lumiere comes back to life, and our heroes rebuild. Soon though, they'll realize that everything isn't quite as it seems, and their existence is much more fragile than they had believed. Gustave, Verso, Lune and the others will have to push the boundaries of reality to secure a permanent future for their world.
OR: We can still fix it without a secret third ending! It'll just take a while. And may or may not involve rewriting the laws of physics.
