I wrote this round about when Deep Space Nine first appeared on British TV, around 1993.
I think the story might have appeared in the fanzine Starship Excalibur, but I’m not sure any more.
I found the only remaining typescript (written on an actual manual typewriter!) in a folder of old Con reports – and since AO3 is an archive, and I am still quite proud of this story, here it is. (I have noticed, while re-typing it, that my descriptions of technology are very much of their time – I’d do it differently now!)Keiko has a new pupil in her school.

I saw Genevieve Cogman speak at EasterCon this year, and immediately went out and bought her Invisible Library series - so I had to do a crossover with Good Omens.
Irene and Kai are looking for a book of prophesies in a remote world where dragons and Fae are not present. Instead, the magical forces are represented by angels and demons.
The book has been tracked down to a certain bookshop in Soho.
This should be an easy mission, shouldn't it?The PBFA is the Professional Booksellers' Fair Association, which holds antiquarian bookfairs around the UK.

I’ve read a lot of fan fic where Crowley knows how to look after babies, and I started thinking – what if that’s true, but his knowledge is still stuck somewhere in Mesopotamia? If it worked then, it should work now – and the best thing for a baby who needs to be fed is to get a goat….
And somehow this became an origin story for Sister Theresa Garrulous, of the Chattering Order of St Beryl (so imagine Disco Tony looking after the baby!) -

Summary
I was reading Bleating Hearts by HKBlack (which is excellent, btw) and also thinking about the advice to "write what you know", so I started daydreaming about how the goat farmer meets literature professor scenario would transfer to Herefordshire.
Aziraphale was easy - a bookseller in Hay-on-Wye, the Town of Books. I've put her shop where Green Ink Books is now, which used to be a multi-level shop, with a flat above.
Crowley - well, that became obvious pretty quickly, too - instead of goats, apples. Herefordshire has a lot of old orchards, and I used to know a lady from the Marcher Apple Network, which identifies old apple varieties, and works to preserve them.
And I wanted it to be Ineffable Wives, because I had so much fun writing the Old West story Secret Friendship (which is a boring name, but I couldn't think up a better one). -
