'We are dust and shadows'Draco has made a mistake, he has walked down a path he may not be able to return from. Everything he did was to protect Hermione from the Prophecies but did he push her towards them? The second Trial is about to start, directly after the Yule ball.
No one can be trusted and the Dark Lord is gaining strength and an army is rising. With so much loss and death in the castle can Draco and Hermione find themselves and save everyone? Or have they lost any chance of a future?

Draco's face darkened, "Finish that sentence and I'll break your other leg."Draco saves Hermione's life at the Quidditch World Cup and reveals his hand to the Dark Lord, he threatens Hermione if she ever tells anyone what he's done. Witches are going missing at an alarming rate and the Triwizard Tournament is announced. Harry, Hermione and Ron's relationship is tested, Hermione witnesses Draco being tortured and tries to save him. She’s keeping secrets from everyone including herself.
The Tournament will be in pairs, the stakes are higher than ever and it will be projected for the world to watch. A prophecy has forked, and Hermione is faced with impossible choices between Harry and Draco. Draco is being controlled and relationships are tested as Death Eaters infiltrate Hogwarts.

Granger bristled at his assertion. “My life is on the line every day.”
“So. Is. Mine.” He growled back. “Give me my fucking wand and don’t be so bloody obvious when you contact me.”
She narrowed her eyes. “I already told you I'd be more careful next time.”
She better be.
“One more thing.”
“What, Malfoy?” she snapped, still angry she hadn’t gotten the information she wanted.
He pointed his finger at her so she would understand how important this was. “You need to learn Occlumency. If you’re captured, I’m dead.”
She stared back in defiance. “We both are.”
He couldn’t argue with that.
She tossed his wand to the floor and Disapparated with a crack.

Draco found himself waiting for Hermione to pull away.
Any second now she’d do it. She’d go still in his arms, then tug back from him, looking shaken or even alarmed, and she’d say, what are we doing, or maybe what am I doing, and he’d be forced to consider the questions himself. And then she’d spiral into descriptions of the short-term and long-term consequences, probably structured like an argumentative essay which, written down, would have filled three feet of parchment.
Minutes passed, though, and she didn’t go still.
