    Summary

This idea was born from a fic I read here on AO3 and genuinely could not stop thinking about. I kept waiting for someone else to write more stories like it. Eventually I decided to write one myself. Consider this my love letter to that premise.

Hannah Wells is not a damsel. She wants that on record. She survived the worst night of her life and walked away. Just not the way anyone might have expected. She walked away with a daughter—bright and stubborn and entirely worth it—and the unshakeable conviction that she would never need anyone to save her again. She survived. She rebuilt. She is still rebuilding.

Garrett Graham doesn't do complicated. Hannah Wells is the definition of it—guarded, exhausted, and holding everything together through sheer force of will. When the scholarship keeping her afloat starts to slip and the walls she's built threaten to come down with it, the last person she expects to steady her is him. She doesn't know how to ask for help. She's never let herself. Then Garrett shows up and stays, and Hannah is forced to reckon with the possibility that needing someone and losing yourself are not the same thing.

    Summary

Samira Mohan’s life is divided cleanly into two distinct halves: before PittFest and after it. She will never again be the person she was when she clocked in for that shift. She will never forget the give of her patient’s skull beneath an EZ-IO or the slip of the pigtail catheter between her fingers. Even months later, she’s still struggling to unpack all the ways that day changed her life.

Perhaps the strangest residual effect is that Jack Abbot sort of, inexplicably, becomes her best friend.

Or: Samira Mohan finds her way through residency and subsequently stumbles onto a whole lot more.

    Summary

Samira has long known that being friends with Robby is a character flaw. It had just never seemed so damning until now. It itched at her inion whenever Jack stared at her from across the ED. She pushed it away when he emailed case studies, because he was the only person not related to her who emailed her at all. She ignored it because she liked the way his callused hands brushed against the soft skin of her inner thighs and how his warm tongue felt heavy in her mouth. She craved the goosebump tingle that seemed to pulse at every nerve ending, at every millimeter of skin, whenever Jack’s attention focused solely on her at the end of a long day.

    Summary

Samira Mohan was not standing in the Hub by 7:15. Instead, by 7:45 Jack had left her three missed calls and two voicemails. Normally that sort of behavior would label him as an overbearing boss, but it was January and the city was vicious and cold and the roads were slick and Samira was late for work and Jack–

Well, Jack Abbot was many things but he was most definitely not a hopeless romantic. Any sentimentality on the idea surrounding love and soulmates had been lost on him when his wife died ten years ago. When Jane died, so did the part of him that believed in love after loss. After all, he had seen people remarry. Had known that the idea of such a thing was possible and genuine and–

And Jack Abbot was convinced he would never love again.

    OR

Samira Mohan is late for work. She's never late. Jack Abbot is aware of this and spends his shift responding to a massive pileup MCI while trying to not spiral about Samira's sudden radio silence. But then the paramedics bring in a patient and Jack's world stops spinning.
