“Well, I suppose it’s only fitting,” Dazai muses, his voice awfully melancholic. “After all, birthday parties are reserved for those who are worth celebrating.”
“Don’t say that.” Kunikida nudges his partner. “You’re quite the handful. And yes, you’re shortening my lifespan on a daily basis. But, I have seen more than just the silly, childish side of you. I have seen a very caring and selfless man who willingly throws himself in danger’s way just to help people. And that Dazai deserves more than he’ll ever know.”
“You’re far too kind, Kunikida-kun.”
Or, the Agency decides to throw a surprise birthday party for Dazai, and Kunikida is assigned to keep him away from the office while the preparations are being made. Things go slightly awry because it’s Dazai and he just can't seem to have nice things. Or can he?

Fingertips trickled down his back, then up again, the back of his nails gliding over each slope of his ribs, counting the divots. “Perfect,” Dazai hummed.
Perfect. He scoffed at the embarrassing praise, but it made his chest feel a little warmer. Perfect for what? There was no use Dazai had for Chuuya’s bones—nobody cared about that part, just the muscles that wrapped around them and filled out the skin they had been left with. Bones couldn’t even feel or think, but they were the last part to remain. It was unfair.
Dazai could pick apart every piece of him and praise the beauty of its role in the mosaic that was his Chuuya.
tl;dr chuuya struggles with adjusting to his new life at the agency, so dazai plans a date night to cheer him up

Summary
When Dazai stepped into the agency something was off. He saw it in the way Atsushi tensed and Yosano stood bent over Ranpo’s desk speaking quickly and angrily. Everyone was there but no one greeted him.
Something was clearly up, and he would guess it had something to do with the bunch of papers Kunikida held in his hands.
Dazai took the pile from Kunikida without any resistance. He quickly leafed through the pages to see what was included, and to no surprise everything from the first to the last one was there. Including the short ones and the stupid ones and the ones where he confessed his feelings in the most ridiculous ways.
Suicide letters.
Years worth, all in his colleagues hands.

Dazai has been homeschooled his whole life. Until his adoptive father Mori goes on an extended vacation and leaves Dazai at Yokohama Private High School as a boarding student.
Dazai isn’t sure what to expect, except that he doesn’t plan to be at the school for very long.
And then he meets his hot-headed roommate, Nakahara Chuuya, who flips his world upside-down.
