“Come on, Steve, you were just complimenting me on my investigative skills. You think I turn them off when I’m not working?” He runs his hand through his hair—god, he hates this haircut. “Nine years we’ve been dancing around this, making eyes at each other, claiming we’re not what we are, and then you just pop up in my house on a random Wednesday and jump my bones, just like that? You think it’s hard, making sense of you? I hate to break it to you, my friend, but you are not what’s called a complex character, you absolutely are not.”
Steve’s nodding, absent little dips of his head. His eyebrows have set into his mule face. Danny wants to hug him, but also punch him; he might yet, both, either—the night is young. “Will you just tell me, please?” he repeats.
Or Danny's life takes a sharp turn on a random weeknight, and he finds himself balancing the murder investigation of a Colombian woman with figuring out what is causing Steve's odd behavior.

Another of my favorite stories. Steve leaves for five years and Danny move to New Jersey. Steve buys the house across the street.

Danny gives Steve two weeks before he comes running back, bored and lonely.

Except, Steve's mother's real name wasn't Doris, and now they're swept up in a quest to figure out her life before the CIA, and it seems to take Steve farther and farther away from Danny. And, meanwhile, life goes on, even though it feels like it shouldn't.
Or in which everyone has boxes, some that need to be thrown away, some that need to be taken out of the closet, and yet more that need to be discovered.

To be completely honest, Danny’s ex-wife is not at all what Steve expected. She’s elegant, for a start. British, Steve realizes, as soon as she opens her mouth, accent crisp in a way which makes Danny’s Jersey drawl sound thick and sticky.
She’s also an omega.
“Honestly, though,” she says, “can you even imagine Danny, of all people, with an alpha?”
Steve tries to ignore the way his chest feels a little too tight.
