Six years after her departure from Court, her Grace Anne, Countess of Kent and Pembrokeshire, has settled with her beloved husband William and found the peace that she never knew with her illustrious first husband.
Her daughter has ruled England wisely and well; though - as has always been the case - the matter of religion remains a sore undercurrent to her diplomacy and foreign relations, as reformation and counter-reformation tussle for ascendancy on the Continent.
As summer approaches, it is time for the Queen to remove from London, and go on progress; and where better than to her mother’s house? Always a welcome escape from the trials of politics - but not when those trials follow them…
