Summary
A typical Sunday at the Fortress of Meropide quickly goes south when a mysterious present somehow made its way inside. Unfortunately, Wriothesley did not manage to stop it from being opened. He barely manages to grab Sigewinne and take the hit.
Waking up, with Neuvillette by his side, proves to be quite the novel experience for the duke.

Summary
Neuvillette starts doubting the justice of his judgement concerning Wriothesley all these years ago and visits him at Meropide. After their conversation does not go as expected, Neuvillette decides to take a vacation at a solitary house in the countryside. And since he's reconsidering his decision not to form personal attachments, he invites the duke to come along.
Neuvillette in casual clothing is devastating. Wriothesley has been trying so hard to keep his thoughts professional, to not become too interested in Neuvillette beyond his function as Iudex, but who is he kidding? He’s been fascinated ever since his own trial, and in the many years since he took over Meropide as its administrator, his admiration has only grown. In so many ways, he owes everything he has become to Neuvillette. It’s easy to look up to the Iudex and remember that he’s unattainable in the context of the court, the palais, the prison. Now though? Wriothesley doesn’t know if he’ll be able to keep an appropriate distance, and he’s terrified of what will happen once he fails.
