Baelor felt disoriented.
He had been locked in combat with his brother, trying to prevent him from interfering with the fight between Aerion and Ser Duncan, when he was abruptly shoved forward, landing face first in the mud. He almost swallowed some of it upon impact, not having had sufficient time to break his fall properly.
Baelor’s life is saved during the trial of seven at Ashford Meadow. It comes at too high a cost.

Daeron gets the luxory of understanding one of his visions before it comes to pass for once, and tries to change something. The change comes at a cost.
"Daeron, Maekar remembered, had attempted to tackle Baelor to the ground in an uncharacteristic show of enthusiasm, but had done so at the most inopportune time, intercepting a blow meant for Baelor. Maekar had been sure, however, that his armour had protected him. Daeron had then proceeded to be almost trampled by a stampeding horse, distracting Maekar enough to give Baelor an opening and leave him off balance. Daeron had looked fine though, hadn’t looked hurt, though he hadn't gotten back up. In hindsight, this should have been the first sign to Maekar that something was wrong"

He thought about Vergil. About the shadow his brother had left behind. That gaping, endless hole that no amount of demon-hunting or bourbon could fill. Nero was a piece of Vergil. Maybe the best piece. Something bright and sharp and unfinished. A second chance—not to fix Vergil, not to replace him, but maybe to learn from it. To be better. He could be there for Nero in ways he couldn’t for Vergil, to make sure that Nero never had to be alone the way Vergil evidently was.
