    Life comes at you fast.

    When your last living connection to your bloodline passes on, it's normal to wipe the slate clean and re-invent yourself. For Hiraga Saito, he didn't think that hopscotching across the boundaries of time and space, and into the enslaving arms of a pink-haired aristocrat was a good way to start. But when life starts tossing magic-induced feudalism, ancient religious conspiracies, and world-ending catastrophes at your feet, you start realizing that the laws that govern reality are closer to suggestions than anything else.

    (This is Fragments—a very AU Familiar of Zero fanfic. The Saito here is only a couple years older, but has lived a fairly different life compared to his canon counterpart, and has the personality to match. Snarkier, a little bit angrier, but still a huge goofball more often than not. Though my initial idea is to be somewhat canon compliant, it's more than likely going to go very off the rails at some point in time.)

    After dying in the fall of Gondolin, Glorfindel and Ecthelion each wake in strange environments, far from anything they have ever known or loved. Neither of them know where they are, or why — and most importantly, where the other is. Glorfindel finds himself in the opulent gardens of a warm city, where he is soon discovered by a silver-haired young girl with a kind heart. As she tries to comfort him in his grief, he cannot help but be reminded of Idril. Ecthelion wakes in the freezing North of Westeros and is taken in by the Stark family, as Lord Eddard has an awful track record with keeping strays. Ecthelion tries to adjust to this strange new life despite his grief, but as he finally begins to find his footing, danger looms on the horizon, threatening the lives of those he has come to love. Each elf swears an oath: to protect and serve a child they have come to see as their own. But as this cruel world digs in its claws, and horror after horror passes before their eyes, Ecthelion and Glorfindel must fight to hold onto their morals, their loved ones, and themselves.
