Summary
Robin Buckley hasn't been in the "destroy the Upside Down" business long, but it feels like forever. She's done Russians, secret bases, and the bone-snapping Vecna nightmare. She's got the Party figured out: Dustin is the brain, Will is the quiet one, Max is pure gasoline, Lucas is the reliable one, and Mike Wheeler is sarcastic, awkward, and apparently allergic to personal space.
It's been a month since Max woke from her coma, and the gang meets daily to plan Vecna's destruction. Which gives Robin plenty of time to notice that Mike is constantly touching people. Draped over shoulders, head in someone's lap (not sleeping, just lying there), wedged next to someone when three seats are empty, hanging off people's backs like a whiny backpack. And everyone lets him. They let him use them as pillows and give him things when he asks in that pathetic, pleading voice.
At first, it drives Robin insane. Why does no one set a boundary? But the more she watches, the uglier it gets: jealousy. Because Mike never does any of that to her. She's tactile, she likes touch more than she'd admit, but Mike has her flagged as a No-Contact Zone. Even Steve gets the full clingy Wheeler treatment. Everyone does. Everyone except Robin.

Summary
Max Mayfield was used to keeping people at a distance. She knew how the world worked: there were those who cared about you, and those who didn't. Mike Wheeler, it seemed, belonged to the latter—at least, that's how it looked when she tried to fit in with their group.
But something changed.
Suddenly Mike notices when she's too quiet. Suddenly he's there when she's hurting. Suddenly his hand on her shoulder is not an accident, but something taken for granted. He says the right words at the right moment, sees what she carefully hides, and acts as if she had always mattered to him.
Or Mike treats all his friends the same way he treated Will in seasons 1 and 2 — and that's how it's always been
