    Summary

It’s the sound that sticks with her afterwards.

Not the sight, not the smell, but the pained gagging, the muffled sobs as Batman holds down the Joker and forces the pills down his throat.

It’s a horrible sound, desperate as he gasps for air and then splutters, claws at the hand pinning him down to the rough surface. It’s like something out of a nightmare, something so harsh and strange that it almost sounds inhuman. It’s worse as his grip goes limp, as the Batman’s fingers come to clamp hard over his mouth, thick material slipping past his lips, forcing him to swallow. She can see the spit flecking around the leather, the hints of canine gums behind dark lips, flashes of pink that betray his true nature. He fights to keep his eyes open, lashes fluttering desperately like the wings of some trapped butterfly. He thrashes but the Batman just keeps his gloved hand in place, keeps him pinned. She wonders if he can even hear the sounds that he’s making. If Batman can too. But surely he would stop if he could?

    Summary

Bruce can see the blood, now, dripping down Joker’s split lip, down his chin, and he wants to feel it, taste it, press his lips against the wound and bite down harder. He wants to kiss him and he wants to wrap his hands around his throat but instead he clenches his knuckles and swings his fist again, hits harder, opening his mouth to loose his rage in a burst of noise. He loses himself, then, and is dimly aware of Joker falling, the two of them grappling in the dirt, before he comes back to himself to find that he is being pulled away.

“That’s enough, Bruce,” someone is saying, gripping his arm, pulling him away from the Joker.

“No,” he says, struggling against the intrusion. “No,” he repeats, when the insistent hands do not listen. “It isn’t over yet.” Don’t they understand? He needs this, and the bastard is still smiling, still grinning through bloodied teeth and a mangled smile, and Bruce isn’t done.

    Summary

Every surface is covered with him. The Bat. Sheets and sheets of paper plaster the walls, newspaper clippings and photographs that are all covered in frenzied, colourful marks. Crude drawings frame the pictures, rough like the painstakingly heartfelt crayon of a child, the same bats and birds and clowns repeated over and over again.

It’s like a strange graveyard where all things caped go to die, a dumping ground for all of the scraps of fabric and batarangs and broken gadgetry that the Batman has ever left behind. It’s scary, the sheer amount of it; the way that the spots of black seem to look down and corner him as though the caped freak is really in the room watching. Tiny, gleaming dots of white peer out from plastic cowls, an army of faux batmen keeping guard from the floor and the shelf and the bedside table, surrounding him from all sides.

Tommy has never been a religious man, can’t say he’s even set foot in a church since he was little (not since his ma died) but he has the strangest feeling that he’s looking at something unholy.

    Summary

“Got a smoke, handsome?” Joker asks, and finally he sidles up to the solitary figure standing under the awning.

There is a pause, a still moment where Matches’ eyes rove over him, taking in his makeup and wig, the glittery dress that clings to him, before recognition dawns and his gaze hardens, darkening to something else entirely.

“Pretty girl like you? I’ve got anythin’ ya want,” he says, but his eyes offer up a litany of questions. Anything, he says, but the angry set of his eyes screams what are you doing here, Joker? and what do you want? and are you going to make me hurt you?

Sam and Dean attempt a summoning ritual that goes wrong, causing them to accidentally summon the demon closest to them; Crowley.

As one can imagine, this doesn’t go down too well with Crowley, or Aziraphale for that matter.

    Summary

Like a dog, the Joker comes when he is called. Like a mutt, Bruce has thought in his less charitable moments, but now he finds that he is pathetically grateful that in this one way he is unerringly predictable.

It is not until he sees him, though, (feline, cat-like, slinking from the shadows with his red raw grin tipped upwards into a knowing smile) that Bruce realises that he has not thought this through.

    Summary

Joker can feel himself wilting under the buzzing light and the white, white walls, dulled by the little yellow pill that arrives each morning like clockwork. The wrongness of it itches under his skin and on some days he can barely stand it, screaming and screaming and clawing at his skull because he just wants the dullness out of his head.

On other days he taunts the guards, taunts anyone who will come near him, pushing and pushing because he knows that he can get them to snap. They are instructed not to talk to him, to keep interaction to a minimum; to look through him as though he is as thin and insubstantial as paper, but he is good at getting into people’s heads and they are oh so easy to break. He laughs triumphantly as they force open the cell door, laughs harder as the first hits come and the breath is squeezed from his lungs, and afterwards, crumpled in a heap of limbs on the floor, he grins through bloodied teeth.

On other days, the worst days, he wakes up, takes his sugar pill and feels nothing at all.

    Summary

“Lamentably, Drumknott, in certain matters, subtlety is not something with which you are well acquainted.” Lord Vetinari intones, his tone almost bored. His voice is casual, offhand, but the implication is unmistakable. Behind steepled fingers, his eyes glint like that of a snake.

Still, desperately, he tries: “My lord, I do not know what you are intimating, I-“

The words die on his tongue, withering before the excuse can even leave his mouth. He had hoped to keep the words even, miraculously temper the panic that is seeping into his gut, but even that is a futility. Keeping anything from his lordship is folly; he more than anyone knows.

    ***

Or, Drumknott is called into the Oblong Office one evening for a diverting conversation.

    Summary

When Mumbo decides to steal Grian’s soul, he cannot possibly bargain for the unfortunate side effects; chiefly the pair of large, white feathered wings that have sprouted from his back. Wracked with pain and unfamiliar in his own body, he finds that he has to learn himself all over again.

Luckily, Grian is willing to help him every step of the way - he just has to reach out and ask.

    Summary

“Alright then you pesky bird, what is it that you’re after?” he asked, and Grian felt the feeling in his stomach start to bubble up again.

It wasn’t that the nickname was anything new; Mumbo had started affectionately using it after the first time he had found him rifling through his chests and borrowing his things without asking. No, it was his voice. The tone of playful resignation as he gave in to Grian’s whims was so familiar, so open, so fond.

    Fond of him.

“It doesn’t matter now anyway.” The noise that he lets out is harsh and grating to Grian’s ears, a jarring, twisting sound that teeters between a laugh and a desperate sob. “The sun was never meant to be loved. I know that now.”

“Scar,” he says, desperately, “I don’t know what you-“

“Everything that comes close to the sun burns, Grian. I’ve burnt myself for you, time and time again. Over and over I’ve let you burn me, but I can’t do it anymore.”

    Summary

“It’s silly,” he begins, shaking his head a little as if to dismiss the thought. His eyes are glued to the floor again.

“It doesn’t matter if it seems silly, Gri, whatever it is is clearly affecting you badly, and listen,” at this Mumbo leans closer, reaching out a tentative hand. His fingers grip Grian’s chin softly and he pushes gently upwards until the blue eyes meet his, looking up at him with an expression that he can’t quite place. “I care about you.” The eyes widen a little. “You’re important to me; so, so important, and when I told you that you could come to me at any time, I meant that.”

    //

Or, Grian has a nightmare. Mumbo is there to comfort him.

    Summary

    Of blood.

What will happen when a brash thief is brought before the merciless King of the Antarctic Empire?

In the wake of Dream's defeat in battle, and Tommy's escape from exile he finds himself face to face with the merciless King of the Antarctic Empire, famed for his harsh treatment of his enemies and animalistic nature as a piglin hybrid. He expects to meet a swift end, but instead finds himself with something infinitely more valuable; a place that he can call home.

However, the shadow cast by the death of his brother continues to loom over him. Can Wilbur really be dead?

And all the while those who were loyal to Dream continue to skulk in the shadows, determined to reach their goal despite the loss of their leader. They say that to cut the head from the snake is to bring an end to things, but can that really be true?

(Told mostly from Technoblade's perspective, however some chapters will likely be from Tommy's perspective or switch perspectives to allow for whichever character whose narrative I believe to be the most interesting for that chapter to take centre stage. )
