He launched himself through the door of the morgue where Shoko was studying alone.
“Suguru thinks I’m trans!”
Shoko paused mid page flip. She’d become used to Satoru’s bad habit of barging into rooms unannounced. Still, this was a shocking declaration, even for him.
“Suguru what?” Shoko asked, blinking in confusion at Satoru’s clear distress.
“I know,” he wailed dramatically. “I told Suguru weeks ago that I’m an omega and I just learned that he’s thought that I was trans this entire time.” He knew he was being dramatic — it was kind of just his natural state — but uniquely he was genuinely distressed this time.
Shoko looked at him for a long moment. “Aren’t you?”
Satoru gawked at her. “What?”

He huffs a little. “Do you think it’s because of the suppressants?” He pulled his face from the bed to peek at Shoko again. She shrugged.
“Could be,” she agreed. “You could also just be really unlucky and have bad heats.”
Satoru chuffed. “Not surprised my body hates me,” he grumbled, letting out a weak cry when his abdomen seized again.
Shoko’s hand slid away, leaving him feeling oddly cold and bereft. Satoru didn’t want to be alone, but Shoko wasn’t who he wanted either. He squeezed his eyes shut.

“He’s calling for you,” Shoko said. “He’s been calling for you since he lost sight of you,” she smiled weakly. “It’s kind of pathetic actually. He’s all… mopey.”
Satoru inhaled slowly. He could read between the lines of what Shoko was saying. He wasn’t as socially inept as everyone thought he was.
What Suguru was dealing with was largely an unknown. They didn’t have a baseline for him, nor did they knew much about why the curse sent him into a rut. They didn’t know what to do. What they did know, was the best way to manage a cycle was. That ruts and heats were much safer and mild when with a partner.
Suguru had been crying for Satoru.
