    He crossed to Adaine, gripped her by the front of her top, slapped her sharply across the face, saying, “Stop that idiotic crying, would—” Then he cut himself off, frowning, and inspected his palm.

    Aelwyn held her breath.

    “Acid Splash,” he said, and he sounded derisive, and Aelwyn didn’t think she’d be able to breathe even if she wanted to—but then he shook his head, and she realized the derision was directed towards her sister, not her. “It’s only a cantrip, Adaine, for Galicaea’s sake! Now stop crying!”

    She hadn’t, but she had at least stopped screaming. She had her hands pressed hard into her eyes and she was trembling, but she was silent.

    The Campane inflates insanely out of proportion, and Sero is panicking to keep things interesting.

Her only friend is Kristen, the Chosen One of Helio, and spending time with her is the only thing keeping her going...

    Until she---and Kristen---get kidnapped by pirates.

    Fabian Seacaster is intent on forming his own legacy, and becoming known as more than just the son of Old Bill and the Pirate Queen. So when it soon becomes clear that the first royal he's taken for ransom is far from happy at home---and that she comes with the Chosen One of a church that several of his crewmates have reason to hold a grudge against---he makes the rather unorthodox decision to offer both of them places on his ship. After all, there's always room on a pirate crew for a couple of misfits.

    A life of adventure, daring escapes, strange new experiences, and unexpected connections awaits. But there are always enemies abound.

    “That's the spirit,” Fig cheers, about-facing to march into the living room. “Riz on the road to rest and relaxation, baby!”

    “That's basically a song title right there,” Kristen says.

    “Hey, kind of! Riz, can I write a song about your journey to becoming a more centered individual?”

    “Sure,” Riz says, because Kipperlilly would never say yes to that. And he's not Kipperlilly.

    (Or: After the events of Junior Year, Riz resolves to stop drinking coffee and start relaxing. It's not as easy as it sounds.)
