Ten months after launch, Project Hail Mary recieves a status transmission informing them that Yao and Ilyukhina have died in their comas. Eva Stratt isn't ready to talk to medical lead Chananyapak Yimlamai about what that means.

Softly, they place a hand on the Sentinel's face, caressing it and pressing a kiss against their mask-plate, their velvety silk against the cool metal.
The cogs whir louder for a moment, and then their eyes light up in white, waking up as Phantom trails their claws along their head a little longer.
Then, they straighten, feeling more soreness, their back aching. The Sentinel follows, sitting up, knees up to their chest.
OR
After a rough night, Phantom and the Second Sentinel take care of the lasting marks.
