So she ignored the intensifying pain in her chest, disregarded the way her body felt like it was set ablaze for her every waking moment, and wrote off the thick, yellow phlegm she started coughing up around day four as a triviality. A mere inconvenience rather than a dire warning of a deeper issue.
It would pass, she thought, and repeated it over and over to herself, day in and day out, like a mantra.
