Summary
A play-by-play of Kris having their thoughts narrated to them by the player during the Weird Route in Chapter 5.
I wrote this in one sitting because Chapter 5 Weird Route impacted me way harder than I was anticipating and i needed to get this out of my system.
Kris and Noelle are so fascinating to me and I hope it doesn't sound like I want to romanticize the Weird Route but it'd be a lie to say I didn't find a really interesting and compellingly harrowing narrative.

"When Shadow saw Sonic standing all bedraggled and barefoot in the kitchen, package of pasta in his hands, struggling to read the instructions, he couldn’t help but sigh fondly, another part of the tightness in his chest loosening (the shower had helped a small amount with that, but it hadn’t worked as well as just seeing Sonic again).
Shadow didn’t have the bandwidth for words right now, or for making much eye contact, but Sonic hadn’t seemed to mind (he never seemed to mind). And then Sonic had told him he loved him..."
OR
Sonic is tired after a long day of fighting badniks, and when he gets home, he finds out Shadow is tired from a long day, too, having been out on a solo GUN mission. They do their best to comfort each other, and help each other deal with the aftermath of their bad day, so they can finally get some rest and have a good night.
(In other words, Sonic and Shadow fight angst with the power of love and being sickeningly soft with each other)

Summary
Once White Space had crumbled, once the Time Eater had been defeated, Shadow had expected the rest of his Doom Powers to fade alongside them. They were powerful, sure, but he wasn’t eager to have to deal with them moving forward. For the most part, his Chaos abilities were enough to get the job done, and he mostly left it at that.
Much to his dismay, however, the Doom Powers didn’t leave. They instead made themselves painfully obvious over the next week or so.
Or: Shadow has to deal with the effects of his adventure in White Space, one at a time.

In his days at the ARK, one of Shadow's many roles as Maria's cure was to be her service animal. He was trained to help her manage her condition and to notice any blood sugar changes. Call it a bonus. Nowadays, he keeps his training a secret—since it never comes up in conversation—and lives alongside his best friend, Rouge, in their apartment. And since it was summer, he and Rouge had been invited out for a beach day! Within the group, there just so happened to be a type 1 diabetic. With that and the hot day ahead, there was just something waiting to happen.

“I guess…” he starts, looking anywhere but at Sonic, “I can stay until the fox returns.”
“You could also just take me back to the party,” Sonic grins, smiling wider when Shadow glares. “Hey, it was worth a try,” he laughs.
Shadow isn’t fast enough to shut down the part of his brain that thinks it’s almost…precious, that Sonic could easily ditch Shadow and head back to the party, but here he is, letting himself be taken care of. It makes Shadow feel uncharacteristically soft as he sits on the couch. Sonic never listens to him, it’s a good feeling….being trusted.

When Shadow walked through the door, he hadn't expected a full on sobbing hedgehog in the kitchen to be the sight. But here he is, and he can't escape it now. He fidgeted with the doorknob nervously as he mulled over the right thing to say.
"Um, are you okay?"
Sonic turned to him with a fiery glare, shouting, "NO! We don't have any fucking chili dogs left!" He let out a wailing sob as he pushed his head back into his hands as he sat at the kitchen island.
Shadow closed the front door and walked away.
