    Ilya winces at the shaky inhale of Shane’s breath that is followed by the most pitiful sigh he’s ever heard in his life. “I just don’t want to do this anymore, Rozanov. The sneaking around, the hiding...” Shane pauses. Ilya can’t help but wonder what is being left unspoken. “it’s exhausting. I-I don’t think I CAN do it anymore…”
    There it is. Ilya’s worst nightmare unfolded in front of him. Shane doesn’t want him anymore. This whole situation is too much for him, and now Ilya will never get the chance to say the words that have been circulating in his head for months.

    Then Rozanov leaned in and Shane felt his breath catch in his throat. They weren't touching but the proximity alone was enough to make Shane's whole nervous system sizzle.

    “Can’t you feel it?” Rozanov whispered, his voice rough with desire.

    “No,” Shane lied.

    “I ache to touch you,” Rozanov almost moaned. His voice was so soft and full of need. Shane could feel his own body respond to it. He knew exactly how Rozanov felt.

    But he didn’t want to feel this way about this man. It should have been someone else. Anyone else.

    “We are nothing,” Shane said. “Go away, Rozanov.” And then he got into his car and drove away. He didn’t look in the rear view mirror as he left because he did not want to see the look on Rozanov’s face.

    Ilya Rozanov has been drafted by Boston, the number one pick overall, but his father doesn't want him moving to America and so takes steps to block his visa. He's going to have to go back to Russia and stay there forever and that, thinks Shane Hollander, is wrong.

    It's so wrong that Shane can't stop himself from doing something about it. Even though that something is the most reckless, the only reckless thing he's ever done in his life. He marries Rozanov in secret, to keep him out of Russia and put him on a path to Canadian citizenship.

    Shane's got a five-year plan to get him there and when you have a plan nothing can go wrong. Right? Right. When you have a solid plan and a marriage that's on paper only there's no risk of feelings getting involved. Not on Rozanov's part and certainly not on Shane's.

    Right???
