Summary
In another world, another time, not all fairies went underground. After a long and dark war with the humans, the People find themselves faced with a hard decision: stay and fight or hide under the earth. However, a third option is found. Instead of leaving their homes, different families of the People work together and hideaway using magic.
Hundreds of years later that peace may be disrupted when constable Holly Short smuggles a human into Haven.
(Or: Contable Holly Short is sent to a human town to investigate a possible swear toad infestation and comes upon a shocking scene. Unable to stop herself, Holly steps in. Stuck with a human and unsure what to do with him, she decides to bring him with her.)
Meanwhile, Artemis just wants to go back home.

Tim nodded once, which was a mistake, because the pier rolled unnaturally under his feet.
“Important screening question,” he said.

"It had been a few days since Aliza had seen Sans, and as she'd come to learn, that was never a good thing."
After completing Papyrus' fifth puzzle, Aliza was just trying to get used to living with the skeleton brothers and keeping herself alive in a world that wanted just the opposite. Every action had its corresponding consequence, and Aliza certainly wasn't expecting to find tentative allies in Sans and Papyrus, especially not when relations with Queen Undyne and the state of the Core kept getting continuously worse.
Nevertheless, it seemed a small gift, a little understanding, and a lot of empathy on her part went a long ways when it came to a Monster as confusing as Sans.
