And that's where she's been all night, curled in on herself as the shivers turned to tremors and then petered out into nothing. That's how she feels now - kind of vacant, like an empty building that still had echoes of life in it. Chipped paint and decaying rugs, but absent of any noise.
Abandoned, she thinks, might be a better word.
She hears steps, but doesn't bother to move. She doesn't know if she really can. They don't sound like animal steps, though. Too loud, too measured - they crunch over leaves and twigs at a steady, casual pace. Her vision adjusted a long time ago, but it's still difficult to see through the pre-dawn murk of the forest. There's a shadowy figure moving, approaching her. It seems to come into focus all at once - a tall man, maybe six foot, of ambiguous race wearing a well-tailored dark grey suit and expensive-looking, well-polished dress shoes. The stylish semi-gloss fabric of his jacket and slacks catch what little light there is. He comes to a stop directly in front of her, hands casually shoved in his pockets and body held at ease.
"You're a long ways away from home." He says quietly.

Steve is not happy to find that he survived being frozen in ice for 70 years. He would like to talk to whoever made that decision and make them regret it. He is even less happy when the government offers him a job offer right after waking up and decides he is going to make himself a problem then and there. What he didn't expect was to find a old enemy lurking in the shadows, waiting for the opportune time to strike.
