Summary
“Caleeeeb!” Jester whined, approaching the wizard. “Won’t you dance with me, please?”
And he was so drunk, so docile, that he motioned to accept Jester’s demand. Molly had never moved so quickly in his life, intercepting the hand Caleb was about to give to Jester. No, no. Molly would not have it. If Caleb was dancing with any tieflings, it would be with Molly and Molly only.or, what if Caleb danced with Molly and not Jester in Hupperdook.

Summary
He felt in his element here. Surrounded by others, overflowing with joy and passion for live. Festivals were great for exactly this kind of atmosphere. But while usually his eyes would be drawn to the sparkling embers of the fire or the colorful whirlwinds of dresses and scarves, tonight his gaze wandered… elsewhere.
Caleb was resting against the wall of a near building, content to simply watch the festivities unfold. The fire lit up his hair to match the flames and his eyes were glinting with the reflecting lights. He looked, well, Molly’s mind was stuck on breathtaking.
Or: Molly thinks Caleb is gorgeous. Also, there’s dancing.

Summary
After Molly gently, socially pins Caleb against the wall, he figures things between them are settled. Being scolded is never fun, but sometimes people need a bit of a nudge in the right direction, that's all. And Molly is very good at reading people. Caleb is fine, surely.
After certain details come to light—like how Caleb was not, in fact, skimming off the top at all—Molly does his best to rectify the situation.
Or: A wizard and a tiefling walk into a magic shop.

Summary
Caleb had learned the hard way not to let anyone too close, to keep the ruined remnants of his heart locked up tight and away from anyone else he might hurt. It was easy, in a twisted way, when so little of the world even bothered to notice him at all.
Except for when Nott broke the rule and stayed. Except for when the Mighty Nein didn't drive him away even after they knew what he'd done. Except for when Mollymauk hovered beside him, present but refusing to push.
Caught between the want to reach out and the knowledge it was better not to, Caleb couldn't do much but hover, flinching away and leaning in simultaneously until it all, inevitably, goes up in smoke again.

Alternatively: Five times Caleb refused to let the Mighty Nein too close, and one time he finally dared to let down his guard.Series

Summary
When Mollymauk found an average day, as much as one existed with a traveling carnival, thrown off by the sudden appearance of a stranger attempting to rob him, a look too familiar for his comfort in bright blue eyes.
Caleb had just wanted to steal one thing from the carnival and get out of there before anyone was the wiser. Too bad he got caught before he could leave, right?
And yet... perhaps more will change than either of them could ever guess, just from the small chance that their paths crossed.
