Summary
Eddie couldn’t help but picture himself where the older man stood, imagining how he’d be shaking like a leaf, nervous as sin, and excited as hell to be there. How he’d be smiling at his guests, his friends and family, before feeling his heart swell and his smile grow when the music changed and Buck started toward him, Maddie’s hands resting on the crook of his elbow as she prepared to give him away.
He would be teary-eyed as the pair made it down to him, easily accepting Buck’s hands after Maddie kissed both their cheeks.
Or: Eddie does not hold his peace when the officiant says “Speak now”.

Summary
The pain was keeping him alert, adrenaline of the situation keeping him moving as the doors finally opened and he stumbled into the metal box, gracelessly collapsing against the wall and towards the ground.
Before the doors could fully close, however, they were pushed open by a hand that Eddie would recognize anywhere.
Buck.
Or: The speculation fic for the elevator scene in episode 9x18.

The two texts came in almost simultaneously.
Eddie
Can you come over?Chris
I need ur helpThere had been no hesitation on his part, with Buck grabbing his keys and immediately headed for South Bedford Street. While he wasn’t panicked since no one had actually called him, he was on high alert, not exactly sure what he was about to step into. For both the Diaz boys to message though, he had some idea and hoped that he was wrong.

Chris doesn’t end up in Texas, but with Buck. Which leaves Buck to navigate surprise parenthood, feelings realizations, crazy parents, and his best friend all at once.

Summary
The drive home was quieter, Chris barely awake in the backseat and the window rolled down slightly. Buck hadn’t repeated what him and Chris talked about but had assured him that he was okay and it was nothing that Chris wouldn’t tell him on his own. There was no doubt when he said it, like it was a foregone conclusion that Chris would come around.
Eddie let his thoughts wander as he drove the familiar route, the same route he had been driving for nearly three years. The house to the apartment, the apartment to the house; he could probably do it in his sleep. He thought about Ana, about how he liked her, how he could envision bringing her back to Texas to meet his parents and how they’d approve of her.
But it didn’t warm him the way he thought it would, or should.
Or: After picking Christopher up from Buck’s, Eddie can’t help but to wonder if he missed something in his Captain’s advice.

Summary
“How did you do it? When it was Maddie?”
“Which time? When Dispatch was held hostage or when Amber kidnapped her?”
“Either? Both. I was just… so sure that I wouldn’t find him, or I’d be too late. Just to realize I wasn’t even looking for the right people.”
Or: Eddie and Chim have a conversation about their respective Buckley getting kidnapped, which includes the feelings when they were found. It leads to some retrospection and a realization.

Summary
Buck liked the guitar, liked the quiet moments where he would strum and pluck and pick, his brain focused on the movements and progressions. It was something he did for himself, in moments where he needed to feel centred, grounded.
Connected.
It wasn’t a secret, necessarily, it just wasn’t something that he brought up in casual conversation. He was sure he had left the case out a time or two while others were around, though no one commented.
-
Or; Buck learned to play guitar in Montana, and goes to open mike nights to sing about his feelings.

Summary
Buck greeted people with a peck to the cheek or to the temple, and would say goodbye in the same way. He would give exaggerated kisses to Ravi and Chim, mostly to annoy them, but would get a pleased little smile afterwards. He’d kiss Chris’s forehead before bed, and while the teenager would complain loudly, Eddie saw the fondness there too.
For weeks, the 118 and their families were the recipients of Buck’s kisses, his affection easy and open. And Eddie would watch, at first with a dopey smile at his best friend being his ridiculous, loveable self. Buck looked so happy and free like that; how could Eddie not feel sappy about it.
-
Or; Buck gives easy affection to the members of the 118, and Eddie has feelings about it.

Summary
“Uncle Buck can’t talk, princess. He lost his voice.”
Her eyes widened, and she looked at Buck with seriousness. “Are you like the lil mermaid? Did someone take it?”
Buck looked at Chim for clarification, but was getting none. Instead, Jee took off running to her room and came back after a minute or two, tablet in her hand. She made herself comfortable in Buck’s lap and found the cartoon version of The Little Mermaid.
“I’ll show you.” Her smile was infectious, and Buck willingly and gladly would take this bonding time with his niece.
-
Or; Buck loses his voice and is compared to Ariel. Chimney tries to help in the worst way imaginable.

Summary
Buck wasn’t an idiot. He knew he held Eddie in a different regard, knew that the man had driven away with his heart when he left for El Paso. But he knew that aimlessly pining after him was going to hurt a lot more than trying to move on.
Maybe trying to move on with Tommy again wasn’t the best strategy, and was entirely unplanned, but at least it was a step in the right direction.
He wasn’t expecting to hear from Eddie, knowing that he had driven later into the night than normal and would be sleeping it off, so he was surprised by the FaceTime chime going off. Still, he wiped his hands on his apron before answering, propping the phone against the KitchenAid.
“Hey Eds,” he greeted, going back to kneading dough. “What’s up?”
“Are you baking?” Eddie asked, an eyebrow raised and mouth quirked.
-
Or: Buck drives 800 miles to confess that he’s in love with Eddie.

Summary
It started with ”You’re allowed to take up space, Buck.”
-
Buck spent so much of his life existing as a paradox, where he was too much but never enough. Always searching for that place where he was good enough as he was, where he didn’t have to shrink himself or dim his light.
Through a couple of therapy sessions, some realizations are made, truths learned, and views changed.
