Tricking his liege into breaking his deal would be no issue so long as he plays his cards right. When Lucifer asks for a little something in return for his help, however, Alastor realizes he bit off more than he could chew, and that he drastically misjudged his adversary.

This is a manageable prospect when Baxter's being asked to do some work on Vox to make his...current state more user-friendly, but it's not such a manageable prospect when Val starts coming on to him.
(AKA: Val calls Baxter into VoxTek to "fix" Vox, menacing and hitting on him the whole time, until he finally decides to just take what he wants if Baxter's not going to give it to him.)
