And, in the beginning, Luke had figured that his relationship with Aemond will always be a tragic, twisted thing where they—based on the interactions they had after their betrothal—will forever flip–flop between suppressing the urge to choke one another to death or pretending the other does not exist.
And that, decidedly, is not the case.

Summary
It took one violent encounter that almost cost him his life and his dragon for Lucerys to finally realize that Aemond Targaryen is obsessed. He is territorial, possessive, and extremely obsessive. To the point of madness. Yes, indeed, that man is a madman.
And it took a shit amount of letters sent by said madman for Lucerys to realize that the object of Aemond Targaryen's obsession is none other than himself.
No matter where he goes, how deep of a hole he dug, that man will chase after him endlessly.
So what else can Lucerys do but to make use of this obsession and make a living out of it. After all, if he could tame a wild beast to be loyal to him, Lucerys would be able to live a long, safe and quiet life. No war.
