Summary
After some time, the continuous chatter within the ballroom rather suddenly diminishes. In the resulting quiet, Furiosa hears a couple of young men standing close by.
“Is that the Viscount Preston?” one asks, surprised.
“It would seem so,” his companion answers. “Out of the shadows at last.”
Furiosa turns towards the entrance to the ballroom, which is set at the top of an elegantly curving staircase. There, she sees the gentleman in question. Well-dressed, of course, with dark brown hair slicked back off his brow. He’s older than her, by about a decade, she thinks. As he moves down the stairs, she notices that his gait is measured, purposeful, but without a bit of haughtiness. She sees none of the evident self-approval so common in other noblemen.
Overall, for someone who has been mythologized with such fervour throughout the ton, Furiosa is surprised to find the Viscount Preston so … human.
