Summary
Derek had never meant to lie to Avery.
Avery had spent 2 months nursing him back to health, and it just felt wrong to tell him that it was all for nothing.
That the King had awakened and was now whispering in Derek's ears, but that's all it was, just a voice.
It wasn't going to get any worse, so really..Derek was just protecting Avery... Right?
OR:
The King comes back to haunt Derek, and he is too scared to tell Avery, which would shatter the fragile bubble of peace they had worked so hard to create. So, he suppresses the urge to tell Avery until it leaks out the sides.Bookmarked by GrippedByFear

Summary
The King in Yellow is a being beyond comprehension. As real and unreal as reality and all other realities and its form can not be taken in without the cost of mortals being flooded with the Knowledge of all existences and possibilities of every past, present and future and crumbling under its weight on their minds.
However, when Derek Hutchins takes on that weight and turns that knowledge on the King itself, there is always the shifting of reality's tides.
Is this reality of the ones where the King escapes its prison in the mortal lord's mind to bring about its reign and drag their reality into its Carcosa? One where King and lord alike are both doomed to parish from the mortal's will and leave Avery, the chosen vessel and friend, behind to grieve alone? Or perhaps it will be one of the few realities where their struggles do not end on the night of New Years Eve and New Years Day only brings about new possibilities?

Summary
After D3rlord3 sacrifices himself, Avery is left trembling in his bedroom, feeling absolutely miserable. Knowing it couldn't end like that, he goes looking for him to take care of him and make him feel safe in Avery's small apartment in the middle of Cali.
Despite knowing eachother barely and the fact that the two have traumatic sequelae, they bond over the trauma to fix the (what seems like irreparable) damage that has taken over them both and try to live a normal life.
But, after all, trauma makes people connect, doesn't it?
