“Natalie, what the hell was that all about?!” Jackie’s voice comes out shrill as she opens the screen door. She stops and stares at Lottie, freezing at the familiar red eyes. “Why the fuck is there a vampire here?”
“That’s…” Nat glances over her shoulder to stare at Lottie. The brunette towers over her, but she looks about as scary as a Doberman puppy. “That’s Lottie.”
“Perfect,” Jackie replies with an extra edge of faux-sweetness to her tone. “Why the fuck is there a Lottie here?”

"Sure, she had tons of “friends,” those girls who would enthusiastically greet her in the halls and talk to her to seem cooler. And then there were the boys. A lot of them. She occasionally exchanged a few words with some, while they stared at her lips obsessively, thinking that would somehow make her want to kiss them. It never happened, by the way.
She'd dated a few guys over the years, usually the ones not completely obsessed with her, and they always acted too polite, scared perhaps that a wrong move would ruin their reputation. But as soon as someone tried to take things further, she broke up with them. No explanations.
In the end, popularity wasn't her favorite thing, but she knew how to manage it. Her father was proud of her, that was what mattered. No teacher ever dared to raise their voice to her, and the whole school hung on her every word.

Summary
Justin has had a hard life. He'd tell you that openly now, accepting the circumstances he was born into and the ones he chose. He's seen a lot of things most people would never think of. Picking his mother up off the sticky carpet and putting her to bed on her side so she didn't asphyxiate on her own vomit, open sores of people on the street who couldn't stop shooting up, potentially dead bodies rolled up next to chain link fences under the overpass, if you named it Justin had probably seen it.
But nothing would ever beat the site and sound he walked in on now.. A trail of broken glass, streaks of blood and vomit and the sound of Clay begging for him through tears.
