Summary
Short version:
This a prequel to "Everything was fine, until..." You can read this one first, but I would not recommend that.
Long version:
It's time to finally see Marika's side of this story, how and why she became a goddess. Her actions were part of a chain of events that culminated into Messmer's Crusade against the Hornsent, and consequently to his conquering of the whole Realm of Shadow.
This story follows the events that transformed him into who he is today through the eyes of his younger sister, Melina, along with his lover and partner in war, Rellana.

Summary
Short version:
A different interpretation of The Shattering, an alternative universe where Marika's family is (mostly) functional. Heavily focused on Malenia and Ranni's complicated romance, but there's plenty of the other Demigods here as well.
Long version:
Miquella and Malenia return to Leyndell after a long and difficult period spent at the Haligtree to cure Malenia of the Scarlett Rot. Now, fully cured and stronger than ever, Malenia is finally able to live a normal life. She wants to become a warrior, maybe find love, and if she's lucky enough, make amends with her half sister Ranni.
Ranni and Malenia's personalities never matched, despite Ranni being Miquella's best friend, both girls were always bickering and picking fights with each other, but who knows, maybe time had changed them more than they realize.
While those two try to find out where they stand with each other now, a lot of things are happening in the shadows, a new threat to Queen Marika's Golden Order seems increasingly imminent, and she's afraid that her family won't be strong enough to handle it.

Summary
“Surely, one cannot simply be a knight of nothing,” Ranni chimed, her youthful voice lifting playfully. “An oath must have an anchor, lest the warrior drift aimlessly beneath the stars.”
The knight paused in her fluid movements, the heavy breath catching in her throat. She blinked, staring down at the steel reflecting the moonlight in her hand. Then, with an abrupt quickness, she fell down onto one knee before the young demigod. She bowed her head, holding the hilt of her blade toward the princess in a gesture of absolute submission.
“Then in that case,” the knight murmured, biting back an amused grin, “I pledge my allegiance to you.”
Ranni tilted her head, her vibrant red hair shifting over her shoulders as she looked down at the kneeling woman. A small, solemn smile touched her lips.
“Arise, then, mine own champion,” Ranni spoke.

A Tarnished awakens renewed with a borrowed name, destined for a throne she does not want and haunted by visions of the stars, the Moon and a love long ago. Never must navigate through a shattered kingdom to uncover both the memories stripped from her and the truth hidden behind a path paved by gold.
