The war was over, Lily was dead, and the imbeciles he was made to teach in the castle rejoiced over her death. One day, after a Hufflepuff blew up his sixth cauldron of the year, in his anger and his grief, Severus made the most perfect poison he'd ever made.
He wished it was how Potter died. He wished he could get to Black with it, or Lupin. After promising him that Lily would be safe, Albus had failed horribly in his promise, though, and had only shown the barest signs of remorse for it. That was enough.
