    Summary

When James Norrington returns to Port Royal and gets promoted by Lord Beckett, he faces a stark ultimatum – any sign of misplaced loyalties, and he’s out.
The natural thing to do in this position is pretending to court someone to keep Beckett convinced he’s in Port Royal to stay. At least, that’s what Beatrice Nightingale, an aspiring composer stifled by the rigid social norms, suggests. And who would be a more suitable candidate than Beatrice herself?
Their ruse might not only benefit James in maintaining his post, but also help Beatrice with her own reasons for playing the game. Problem is, James and Bee aren’t the only ones with secrets – and sometimes, things aren’t as they seem.

Or: The author thought it a great idea to combine the fake dating trope with her very own PotC-version of a Hellfire Club. It’s a lot, I know.

    Summary

“What I don’t understand is why she had to die,” he said unthinkingly.

“Ha! You’re getting into it now!”

“If you’re going to insist on watching the damn things ten times a week, I can’t be blamed for noticing bits of them,” he replied sourly, leaning on the countertop. “But they bring him back in the next film, don’t they? Why not her, too?”

“The movie-verse explanation is that she was at peace.”

“Dying for a man who could barely pat her on the head in thanks? Oh, yes, very peaceful. Positively euphoric.”

Years ago, I wrote Catch the Wind, a Norrington/Modern!OC fic -- and then a friend floated the idea of an AU where James is the modern one, thrown into the POTC universe, and the OC, Theodora, is the canon movie character fated to die. And I'm powerless to resist suggestions like that. SO, here we have a modified version of POTC where Norrington is not a character in canon events, and THEN a fic within that where he *is* thrown into the story, trying desperately to save the life of the woman he finds himself falling in love with. It's going to be a behemoth, buckle up, maybe read Catch the Wind if you want full context, but it won't be vital!

    Summary

"Please Gandalf... please don't tell him." She begged, her voice thick with emotion and unshed tears.

Gandalf met her eyes with as forlorn an expression as she'd ever seen on his face. There was such sadness held there at the answer she knew he had to give.

"It would be a promise I cannot keep." He told her as kindly as he possibly could. "I'd rather not keep a father and his child from each other- a King and his heir even less so."

Billa looked away but didn't flinch when a warm, rough hand touched her shoulder offering comfort. She desperately needed it. She was so frightened.

"Did you love him?" She heard him ask. She clung to the sympathy in his voice and nodded as her eyes brimmed with tears.

    "Do you still?"

The answer was barely a whisper- as small and secret as the fluttering heartbeat under her shaking hand.

    "Yes."
