Summary
The woman doesn’t look away. Instead she smiles. It’s not soft or overly friendly. It isn’t even warm. It’s coy.
It makes Rio shiver slightly.
No one watches the Secret Service. No one smiles at them. People avoid them. They lower their eyes as they walk past. Even seems to shrink themselves subconsciously. The authority makes them nervous.
This woman doesn’t fear her. She doesn’t even seem intimated by her. She’s fascinated.
Like a predator studying another predator. Trying to decide friend or foe.
“I need intel on the brunette,” Rio snaps into her earpiece.
Or:
While assigned to the President’s detail, Secret Service agent Rio Vidal meets Agatha O’Connor, a socialite with old family money. Except that’s not Agatha’s name. Or Agatha’s job.

Summary
“We got engaged?”
Rio looks at her, puzzled. Her eyes dart back and forth between Agatha’s.
“You remember?” Rio asks carefully.
Holy shit. She’s engaged to Rio.
She’s engaged to Rio.
Her heart feels like it’s about to give out and that burning in her ribs feels like fire.
When did this happen?
“Not really but I guess it makes sense.” She’s barely able to hear the words leave her mouth over the beating of her own heart.
“So you remember Wanda?” Rio asks dejectedly. Agatha frowns, confused all over again.
“Wanda?” She repeats. “Who’s Wanda?”
—————————
Agatha wakes up in hospital with amnesia after a car accident and immediately jumps to the very logical but extremely wrong conclusion about her best friend. As she tries to piece together her life with memories of Rio and no one else, she’s forced to ask herself an important question:
Why did she agree to marry the wrong person?

Summary
“I just don’t understand where it’s coming from.”
“You know where it’s coming from,” Agatha muttered.
Rio scoffed. “Because I won’t let you fuck me? It’s not my fault I have a girlfriend.”
“Yes, it is!” Agatha shouted. “Why the fuck do you have a girlfriend?”
Rio couldn’t count on her fingers how many times they’d had this argument.
“Because I’m in love with-”
“No, you’re not,” Agatha cut in. “You know you’re not.”
OR: Agatha inviting her friends to stay on her estate the summer before they graduate from Oxford is a good idea...right? Who cares if her best friend Rio brought her girlfriend with her? Who cares if you both know she'd rather be with you...?

Summary
"And what makes you think you'd be a good fit here, Ms. Vidal?"
Rio squeezed her fingers tighter in her hand. She hadn't been able to stop thinking about those sharp, blue eyes since she sat down. It was more than distracting.
"Uh," Rio opened her mouth, then mentally smacked herself in the face. Agatha raised a brow at her, then leaned back in her seat slightly. Her attention went back to the monitor and it didn't look like it was coming back to Rio.
The interview felt more like a humiliation ritual.
Which was why Rio nearly dropped her phone onto the busy street when she got the call that she'd been hired.
***
Rio has been working for Agatha Harkness and avoiding going back to her hometown for three wonderful years.
It's an irritating job to say the least, having to deal with her boss's erratic temper, wild schedule, and even wilder requests, but Rio rolls with the punches. Once she's figured Agatha out, everything becomes easy.
Until the day Agatha requests a marriage, a divorce, and a trip to the town she's been avoiding.
aka, the proposal au :)

Summary
“There’s an empty seat a few rows ahead, I’m sure you’d prefer it there,” Agatha says in a sugary tone, pointing a patronizing finger like she’s teaching a child their left from right.
The woman tilts her head. “You mean the one next to the lizard guy with the neck tattoo? That’s where you’d like me to sit?”
Yes, exactly. Agatha thinks, rather rudely.
“Yes, exactly!” she praises condescendingly. “I’m so glad we’re on the same page.”
The woman doesn’t budge. Even worse, she’s sporting an infuriating smirk, like she sees right through Agatha’s bravado and is waiting for it to crack.
Agatha closes her eyes. Is the universe out to get her this weekend? Has she not suffered enough aboard this sardine tin on wheels?
-
OR: Agatha is alone on a train—a wildfire in her eyes, teeth bared in challenge.
Rio dares to sit beside her, warms her hands on the flames, unafraid of the sting.Bookmarked by Heythereimjade
